Decorating that still looks right in five years

Most decorating fails at the preparation stage, not the paint. We fill, sand, caulk and prime before a finish coat goes anywhere near a wall — which is why our work does not flash, crack along the caulk line, or peel off the woodwork after one winter.

Painting & Decorating

Preparation is most of the job

On a typical room, more than half our time on site is spent before the topcoat. Walls are washed down, cracks raked out and filled, previous bad filling cut back, and every surface sanded flat. New plaster gets a properly thinned mist coat rather than a full-strength coat that sits on the surface and peels.

Woodwork is the part homeowners notice going wrong first. We de-nib, sand between coats and use the right primer for the substrate, so skirting and architrave keep a clean edge instead of yellowing and chipping at the first knock.

Working in an occupied home

Most of our decorating is done in houses people are still living in. Floors are covered, furniture is sheeted and moved back, and dust is kept to the room we are working in. We use low-odour and low-VOC paints as standard for interiors, which matters if there are children or anyone with a respiratory condition in the house.

At the end of each day the room is left tidy and usable where possible. On the last day we cut in, make good, and walk the room with you in daylight so anything you are not happy with is picked up while we are still there.

How it runs

Our approach to painting & decorating

  1. 01

    Survey and colour

We measure up, check the condition of the existing surfaces, and flag anything that needs repair before decoration. If you want help with colour we bring sample pots and large boards rather than tiny chips.

  2. 02

    Protect and prepare

Floors and furniture are covered, then everything is filled, sanded and primed. This is the stage that decides how the finished job looks.

  3. 03

    Finish and inspect

Topcoats go on, then we walk every room with you in daylight and snag anything before we pack up.
